Jeff Horn vs Michael Zerafa boxing in Australia

August 31, 2019 by vikas krishan

Jeff Horn has brought his bed to Bendigo as he prepares to fight Michael Zerafa with a win opening the door to a world title showdown and potential bouts against some of boxing’s biggest stars.

Queensland’s former WBO welterweight world champion will fight at middleweight against Victorian Zerafa, who has won regional titles at junior middleweight and middleweight.

A win at Bendigo Stadium on Saturday will catapult Horn into a December 23 fight in Japan against WBA regular middleweight champion Ryota Murata.

Further down the track, Horn’s trainer Glenn Rushton is looking at fights against global superstars in either WBA Super and WBC and IBF titleholder Canelo Alvarez or former WBA, WBC and IBF champion Gennady Golovkin,

But the immediate target is Zerafa, in Horn’s first fight since his second daughter Charlotte was born two months ago.

Horn is determined to avoid the same issue he had before his only professional loss to Terence Crawford in June 2018, when he slept in the same Las Vegas room as his eldest daughter Isabelle, who was almost six months old at the time.

“She was a bit disturbing in the middle of the night. I was waking up a bit tired,” Horn told AAP.

“But we’ve got a house here (in Bendigo) and we’ve got three bedrooms. I’m in one of them (my wife) Jo is in one with Charlotte and Isabelle is in the other, so we’re nice and settled I’ve even got my bed that I sleep in at home delivered to the house I’m staying at.”

Horn is enjoying not having to worry about cutting weight.

Former WBO world welterweight champion Jeff “The Hornet” Horn returns to the boxing ring ready to make a run at the middleweight division, as he takes on Michael “Pretty Boy” Zerafa at the Bendigo Stadium in Victoria, Australian on August 31 live online on Main Event Foxtel.

Horn vs Zerafa

Horn (19-1-1, 13 KOs) is best known for his upset victory over Filipino ring legend and international sport icon Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao.

The fight with Pacquiao was a career defining moment for the 31-year-old former school teacher. He was able to pull off the upset and win the WBO welterweight title.

He defended the belt against British contender Gary Corcoran stopping him by TKO, but eventually losing the title when he fought in the USA against American pound for pound king Terence Crawford.

Horn felt he wasn’t allowed to fight his fight against Crawford and felt the refs constant involved hindered his ability to apply pressure to break down the undefeated American star.

After the TKO loss to Crawford, Horn went back home to Australia went up to middleweight and knocked out Aussie star Anthony Mundine.

He feels his frame is a lot stronger moving up in weight and would like to make a run at any of the title holders in the division like Ryota Murata, Canelo Alvarez or Gennady Golovkin, but he would still be open to a rematch with Manny Pacquiao, the fight could be fought at a catchweight of 152 lbs.

Michael Zerafa (26-3, 15 KOs) is a 27-year-old middleweight contender from Melbourne who campaigned at super welterweight as well.

2019 Battle of Bendigo live online Jeff Horn vs Michael Zerafa

August 31, 2019 by vikas krishan

Jeff Horn is out to prove the critics who say his win over Manny Pacquiao was a fluke wrong and they include his next opponent Michael Zerafa.

Jeff Horn vs Michael Zerafa

Some naysayers refuse to accept Horn’s points win over Filipino superstar Pacquiao for the WBO welterweight title in Brisbane in July 2017, even though a subsequent independent review of the scoring confirmed the result.

“A lot of people talk down my achievements, Michael (Zerafa) did it earlier in this campaign, saying who I beat and that they weren’t very good, it is frustrating,” Horn said.

“Every day on Facebook you get that online bullying of people saying that you’ve done nothing, you’ve fought no one, you didn’t win that fight (against Pacquiao) anyway.

“There’s so many things spoken about, but if I’ve got to convert one person at a time or a few people at a time that’s what I’m going to do, and I guess the next step for me to prove to someone, is Michael.”

WHEN IS THE FIGHT AND HOW CAN I WATCH?

The Battle of Bendigo will be broadcast live on Foxtel’s Main Event channel with the undercard to get started at 7pm (AEST). However, Horn and Zerafa won’t step into the ring for at least a couple of hours after that.
